Dictionaires in Dynamo have around for quiet a while now. So far most of the time I only encountered them with certain nodes. I know there are some nodes OOTB to create them but so far I had never seen a use for the things I do with Dynamo. Which doesn't mean there aren't any.<br />
<br />
I have this script I created quiet some years ago that I so once in a while use. I extracts some information from a Revit project. Since the script always seems to work fine I never really bothered reviewing or updating it.<br />
<br />
One of the things the script does is that it gets all the linked files and report back the instance and type worksets for that link. I link reviewing that information because often i get a pretty good insight in how much the user knows about Worksets in combination with links and I can often offer a solutions for improving performance.<br />
<br />
This time the script worked but the data was all in the wrong columns. The script pushes out information to csv files which I read into power bi to make a pretty dashboard. But because someone decided to use comma's in the name of the worksets things ended up in the wrong columns....<br />
<br />
So I needed to go into the script and fix this by adding a string.replace node. While looking where to fix this in the script I ran into this part of the script:<br />
Several replace by conditions after each other. That looks now like a lot of unnecessary nodes. It takes the values form the parameter discipline which are integers, these integers I like to replace with the actual name.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIvFPw44MWkqYeSgEahOgq3NY9bhsUXkDrEpGnO2jJP1MDW0fGVEBSJ6G_WY1RhFT_or9lfqlMbJEFzxr3r2L4MdoYu4dKbN5pkSaj9XXwuHPZSRA3H_dYwR5pCCyD07pu8rxHdflDn-Y/s1600/2019-03-24_13h35_48.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="651" data-original-width="1159" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIvFPw44MWkqYeSgEahOgq3NY9bhsUXkDrEpGnO2jJP1MDW0fGVEBSJ6G_WY1RhFT_or9lfqlMbJEFzxr3r2L4MdoYu4dKbN5pkSaj9XXwuHPZSRA3H_dYwR5pCCyD07pu8rxHdflDn-Y/s320/2019-03-24_13h35_48.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If I create a dictionary from the values and the words I want to replace them from it looks a lot more savvy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN6HRzdx3gOAc08F_-kROdFVb76TvozB6Z8_YtqCn-kyXNCCSymsny5Ytnetm-yIiv5BQsAJk8hdw4XDkxykEWkqO-APXH8HTc4TMOX2LP5TzJDEUUqhS3YwH4Au3XJPJG6Jd1MbrRyKE/s1600/2019-03-24_13h41_05.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="1505" height="153" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN6HRzdx3gOAc08F_-kROdFVb76TvozB6Z8_YtqCn-kyXNCCSymsny5Ytnetm-yIiv5BQsAJk8hdw4XDkxykEWkqO-APXH8HTc4TMOX2LP5TzJDEUUqhS3YwH4Au3XJPJG6Jd1MbrRyKE/s320/2019-03-24_13h41_05.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The string "other" that gets added is because some views don't report a value for discipline, other is in my mind a bit neater than nothing.<br />
<br />
I ofter tell people when doing Dynamo training that dynamo is like a toolbox and you need to learn what the tools do so you can expand your solution solving skills.<br />
<br />
In other words practise what you preach...<br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Recently I was setting up a dataset for analysis. The files were placed on a Revit server and later I noticed I should have saved them with a different file name. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The save way and recommended way of doing this is by opening the file and saving it as a new central file on the Revit server, but that is also tedious and no fun.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since my projects aren't live and basically I don't get in trouble for messing up my own files let's turn the safeties off and go free riding.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Disclaimer Do not do this at <strike>home </strike>work. It is only tested on my own configuration!</b> <b>From here on you are responsible for what you do with this information. </b></span><br />

I often run into the situation in Dynamo that I need to convert numbers to strings. Most of the time I end up with strings containing many decimals like .000000<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi40T9i-ZIhff68B1vQtumEmN_WoK9mSPB2wrDc5U3oFKOyfcQXonzP3cF3EWRysRFzvd5oyeB7-f3EnBABlgKeGpjItVPK77R9SRu5JZzWxd3LCDlut5HIrQHis4UvYWiM-xM11Ph0ZJ8/s1600/2019-02-18_15h05_45.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="789" data-original-width="886" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi40T9i-ZIhff68B1vQtumEmN_WoK9mSPB2wrDc5U3oFKOyfcQXonzP3cF3EWRysRFzvd5oyeB7-f3EnBABlgKeGpjItVPK77R9SRu5JZzWxd3LCDlut5HIrQHis4UvYWiM-xM11Ph0ZJ8/s320/2019-02-18_15h05_45.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course I can fix that with dynamo nodes but one python script node is handier. The only thing is I can't get the system locale working atm.<br />
<br />
# Enable Python support and load DesignScript library<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">import</span> clr<br />

langlocale = locale.getdefaultlocale()[0]<br />
locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, langlocale)<br />
dp = locale.localeconv()['decimal_point']<br />
"""<br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">if</span> <span style="font-weight: bold;">isinstance</span>(IN[0], list):<br />
numbers = (IN[0])<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">else</span>:<br />
numbers = [(IN[0])]<br />
<br />
output = []<br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">for</span> n <span style="font-weight: bold;">in</span> numbers:<br />
tmp = <span style="font-weight: bold;">str</span>(n)<br />
# You might have to change the splitting character to work with your system regional settings<br />
splist = tmp.<span style="font-weight: bold;">split</span>(".")[0] # now the splitter is hard coded<br />
# splist = tmp.split(dp)[0] only use this line if locale is working <br />
# split generates two items in a list this one gets the first<br />
output.<span style="font-weight: bold;">append</span>(splist)<br />
<br />
OUT = output</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Being busy with Dynamo there is so much you can spend time on learning. I haven't taken the time to look into functions in Dynamo. Which I regret now, I could have saved myself a lot of time. Tonight I thought let's look into this as I found myself repeating something in Dynamo a lot. I often need to get a vector from a curve's start to endpoint. There are curves being created in dynamo that are straight and for which this function may work. This function of course could create havoc for any none straight curves. These straight curves typically come from PolyCurves, edges from flat surfaces and isolines from flat surfaces.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So after reading the dynamo primer for 1 minute.</span><br />

A good friend of me has a computer which is completely water cooled. His setup is really cool, very quiet and very fast. He knows quite a bit about tweaking performance so we had a go at my machine.<br />
<br />
I tend to work on a mobile workstation. I don't call it a laptop because the thing is rather heavy to carry around... He told me that a lot of processors can do with a lot less voltage than what they get by default from the factory. The factory tends to do this for stability and because not every processor is or behaves the same. The disadvantage of the higher voltage is that the temperature of the processor becomes higher. You might think so what. Laptop processors tend to reduce the clock speed once a processor gets to a certain temperature. My processor, Intel i7 8700K (unlocked), throttles back when it reaches 85º celsius. It tends to go from 4700 mHz to 3700 Mhz. Revit performs better at higher clock speeds of the processor. (Revit is mostly a single threaded application, more cores hardly benefits Revit.) So if I can keep the temperature down than the processor won't throttle back.<br />
<br />
So we did a little bit of testing with reducing the amount of volts and the setting the maximum Mhz to see if it would run stable. By default the processor was set to 1300 millevolts. We reduces it to 1085 millevolts and it runs now stable at 4400 Mhz constantly. The bios allows for setting the maximum mHz per core. Next thing I will try is see if I can have one core running at a bit higher clock speed and still stay stable and stay cool. After that setting I just have to test to see if Revit will pick that core that is running at a slightly higher clock speed.<br />
<br />
After a bit of tinkering and the inevitable blue screens we found a setting that that gives me, stable, more performance for Revit and Dynamo.<br />
<br />
The two screenshots show the low and the high fluctuations in voltage usage. It Also shows the current clock speed and the temperature of each core.<br />

<br />
To test the stability we ran this tool called: Prime from: <a href="http://mersenne.org/" target="_blank">http://mersenne.org</a><br />
This tool uses every available core of your machine to calculate prime numbers.<br />
<br />
For a little bit ore detailed info we also used: HWInfo. <a href="https://www.hwinfo.com/" target="_blank">https://www.hwinfo.com/</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmX4qexBpMusvLrFtLX2N8jKraUfSt5J4i4bWp2nXWajh4OsdkfqcCLy5CgNnenboYM5ihzsp0cxVABxSCVjk_h3yR0-tNod5XBJoc4475UeSItV-QtFrQI2o8kXeh4Bc-m36hT5qt_xo/s1600/2018-10-09_10h05_42.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmX4qexBpMusvLrFtLX2N8jKraUfSt5J4i4bWp2nXWajh4OsdkfqcCLy5CgNnenboYM5ihzsp0cxVABxSCVjk_h3yR0-tNod5XBJoc4475UeSItV-QtFrQI2o8kXeh4Bc-m36hT5qt_xo/s320/2018-10-09_10h05_42.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the end we also ran a benchmark that would both stress the video card and the processor to see if the extra heat from the video card would cause any issues. It didn't!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next thing I have to do is turning of the hyper threading as this tends to also benefit Revit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that was a bit of fun tinkering!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Recently I received an email from Autodesk with Revit tips. One tip caught my eye right away: </span><a href="https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/simplecontent/content/turn-all-level-and-grids-linked-models-your-entire-project.html?leadid=291542181&mktvar002=AEC_COL_Subs_Nurture_Phase1_USEng.Email-6&utm_source=email&utm_medium=AEC_COL_Subs_Nurture_Phase1&utm_campaign=USEng.Email-6&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTkRaall6QXhNekl5TURBeCIsInQiOiJkRkpxRmpXYmJCdGltRXlJTkozeVNZSUYrcHJWN3dETHVPUklGQUtFcXZXbFlNMEMwWHd3bCtKS041dmJsbTFmV0paWHUwMW9Pb1JtRnkwUG4xYkhFcUdnc0VQMXdISkppT1NQdTdrbDlLQTM5SzF6ZEs2Q2l2WUpoSmF5WitHayJ9" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">Turn all Level and Grids off in linked models in your entire project</a><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Although the tip is fine and well explained I must say I do not favour this methode. For many years I tell, and many others, to Revit users, not to use Worksets for visibility purposes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you want to turn of Levels in a linked file you can do this with a filter. If the models are properly setup than you can use these parameters to filter upon.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Building Story and Structural are good parameters to use.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNUAka_PEzk02UVJpq8qb_53yUkqy6IM5goZTDtu89PzI6CWqiOtYmsqPoSrbgb6DI9HCKoyiBeolIFYQgm4rcIk6Y2nk0D9mDy7Z5GUrIQR8_7PBwIQQTpQFPHhrbn8VIbzwmwqgGWwM/s1600/2018-09-11_17h16_32.png" imageanchor="1"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="304" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNUAka_PEzk02UVJpq8qb_53yUkqy6IM5goZTDtu89PzI6CWqiOtYmsqPoSrbgb6DI9HCKoyiBeolIFYQgm4rcIk6Y2nk0D9mDy7Z5GUrIQR8_7PBwIQQTpQFPHhrbn8VIbzwmwqgGWwM/s320/2018-09-11_17h16_32.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So basically you will turn of levels based upon parameter values:</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSy4YZAGTUUCluScrTjyVNdZx-zRAIRnkHVg7lyeaPOMHll0JlJylIHXEzWSUYGNNMeCBSRzi6Psh7lY1jyEJRmgmGfyxhqU_1dzHQEU5TbYx2U6vIm0n9HbB_rwZHF0an85noAz_0PTY/s1600/2018-09-11_17h14_48.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSy4YZAGTUUCluScrTjyVNdZx-zRAIRnkHVg7lyeaPOMHll0JlJylIHXEzWSUYGNNMeCBSRzi6Psh7lY1jyEJRmgmGfyxhqU_1dzHQEU5TbYx2U6vIm0n9HbB_rwZHF0an85noAz_0PTY/s400/2018-09-11_17h14_48.png" width="400" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnDzTdWs9s7K91gCLQ9KaAU4VeLVO5ow_zysqaiJ6xuPfyhboFwRDW8Qo8KKA3QL0ub5giCRbVMvtBWXOk9_r4v6wo8qVqpjyIYtdeUmCpr_XDYi0-YtniWBuma1V-I_q_gfoif9eLoA4/s1600/2018-09-11_17h15_45.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnDzTdWs9s7K91gCLQ9KaAU4VeLVO5ow_zysqaiJ6xuPfyhboFwRDW8Qo8KKA3QL0ub5giCRbVMvtBWXOk9_r4v6wo8qVqpjyIYtdeUmCpr_XDYi0-YtniWBuma1V-I_q_gfoif9eLoA4/s400/2018-09-11_17h15_45.png" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Grids do not have this option, Grids only have few parameters. I tested what happen if would assign levels and grids to a scope box in the host model. I could only get it to work if the filter setup was: See image below.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY0eM_yTy9r-TL8i3yCGH9jMTapEvN92SqCML4OeKZBy6FJukhkl2_ZsNT9AkoUiYEPxrUm74uQNhQEBXNQ7pOcGpiTM4V-AcoylEdzaA8FgZA7Of3ysDiIfvlJCIFfdRF_Pp6-EPqB4I/s1600/dgi2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY0eM_yTy9r-TL8i3yCGH9jMTapEvN92SqCML4OeKZBy6FJukhkl2_ZsNT9AkoUiYEPxrUm74uQNhQEBXNQ7pOcGpiTM4V-AcoylEdzaA8FgZA7Of3ysDiIfvlJCIFfdRF_Pp6-EPqB4I/s400/dgi2.png" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If I was filtering for a specif Scopebox name only found in the host model it would not work.(bug???)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What does work but is less elegant:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you change the name of your levels and grids slightly you can filter on that. (In the example below I added DGi to the name of the levels and grids)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwXWfBZP5KM5O3PIawqSnYEeHKBmNKbWZf8LIQUU1VwRQoejsDF16E5saqWB85CrSD-hrtp7k6WSvL8FcbQ5QjoX1wshrbi2w53vydIT6Cgsc0ue_QwcvSw_zT5uOwg8R4R1dHcTYB5ik/s1600/dgi.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwXWfBZP5KM5O3PIawqSnYEeHKBmNKbWZf8LIQUU1VwRQoejsDF16E5saqWB85CrSD-hrtp7k6WSvL8FcbQ5QjoX1wshrbi2w53vydIT6Cgsc0ue_QwcvSw_zT5uOwg8R4R1dHcTYB5ik/s320/dgi.png" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So the filter option might be a bit more tricky to get it to work for you but it when done right you only have to set it once. You don't have to traverse 20 linked files.... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Put the filter in a view template and you are flying!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Over the summer I have been developing Dynamo scripts based upon the CivilConnection package developed by Paolo Serra from Autodesk. We are helping a customer creating and updating views for a tunnel project. </span><br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The alignment is not yet fixed in position. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The tunnel segments need to be modelled in Revit. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The sections and floor plans have to follow the alignment. </span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The CivilConnection package allows us to directly read the information from the Civil 3D file and work with that information in Revit. (We read the corridor information and use the baseline.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the movie below I test the scripts on a different dataset and it works. When the alignment changes, the views update and all the annotations remain. Below a screengrab movie of the script on a different dataset.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The OTB nodes won't allow us to read the Civil 3D information and the OTB nodes tend to recreate the sections and so loose all the annotations. </span></div>

If you develop scripts like me then after a while al lot of nodes are showing their results. (Dynamo < 2.0)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When it's time to tidy up you might want to close them all and that could become a tedious job when you have a lot of nodes. Since you are automating. Open you script in a text editor like Notepad++ and do a find and replace on: isPinned="true" and change it to isPinned="false" </div>

Next tip: Packages (Dynamo < 2.0)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are missing a package and you do not know which one. Do a search on Function=</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Quite often you will be able to see which package it is in the text close to function. </div>

Element.MoveByVector<br />
<br />
Most of the time I like to write about something that I got to work. This time it's slightly different. So far I don't get this thing to work. I am looking into this node called move by vector. It allows for moving elements in Revit by a vector. The vector can be created using two points. I wanted to experiment with this node after a tweet from Luke Johnson about shared coordinates. <a href="https://twitter.com/lukeyjohnson/status/958335581783666688" target="_blank">we need to change Shared Coordinates</a>.<br />
<br />
the reason for wanting to move all these elements is to see if I could fix a file whose shared coordinates have been set up incorrectly. Why do I want to fix a file when there are OTB functionalities for making things appear they are in the right location? Well, I just want to know what is possible.<br />
<br />
I wanted to test to see if I could move all the elements in a file to a new location. A small test on furniture worked just fine. But that are simple point families. I got walls to move as well which is nice as these are line based families. But then the real test came let's try ducts....<br />
So far the only thing I got is a complete mess. I tried to move all the elements that are connected to ducts. The flex ducts do not seem to want to behave. The ducts them self also seem to take directions into their own hand. See below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYS9KazrprpfeN7SkXW2REjjTXAL0a3ctIv3OW0jOvECqBkWJDkwl0GIwzh3u20XWM2nUrmeOX8Nak2IsvCfvNcLWhfMjqcFxETi6pVTK9-_c6EVW9egSHNe9DMvG8OpPuMXDaPr1DqVA/s1600/2018-02-27_10h31_55.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYS9KazrprpfeN7SkXW2REjjTXAL0a3ctIv3OW0jOvECqBkWJDkwl0GIwzh3u20XWM2nUrmeOX8Nak2IsvCfvNcLWhfMjqcFxETi6pVTK9-_c6EVW9egSHNe9DMvG8OpPuMXDaPr1DqVA/s400/2018-02-27_10h31_55.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The duct fittings don't want to go either. I suspect that it has to do in the order that things get moved. Now I am moving stuff per category. Let's try to move elements per system. Or maybe I am simply expecting to much of this node and is the translation of elements rather complicated.<br />
<br />
the script so far that does not want to work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi6XRv_fl43I-wTKJCz7sq7zHwvo1C_TZtOQ3Q3u834SDCxtu8cZKTrPh1QTMy02EEh5DbXaY5G-1O7JKCVDb0pa1hE2dht4bG8gtyqGkL-zIAyz3tvpnL1ddshPHDRjdj4-WbrdVd5ew/s1600/Capture.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi6XRv_fl43I-wTKJCz7sq7zHwvo1C_TZtOQ3Q3u834SDCxtu8cZKTrPh1QTMy02EEh5DbXaY5G-1O7JKCVDb0pa1hE2dht4bG8gtyqGkL-zIAyz3tvpnL1ddshPHDRjdj4-WbrdVd5ew/s400/Capture.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's try one system at the time. The system I want to move is coloured red. To ease selection I use the select model elements node to select all the elements from the same system.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSt2W1hZgp4o9gui2AaF20FhYzpxK05PGHlq_yN2uUhcfMwCsza9tXt5D4F1AYSFK3ywAkCSAh-KhxrRIWzq_6Y11Tlcvo4tTweB225XDXqeV0XuTZBP_euIN4AcPotTSk6OycygtkPG0/s1600/2018-02-27_11h18_56.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="1600" height="168" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSt2W1hZgp4o9gui2AaF20FhYzpxK05PGHlq_yN2uUhcfMwCsza9tXt5D4F1AYSFK3ywAkCSAh-KhxrRIWzq_6Y11Tlcvo4tTweB225XDXqeV0XuTZBP_euIN4AcPotTSk6OycygtkPG0/s400/2018-02-27_11h18_56.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
After the translation, and 23 errors I got this. It's seems to me to me that this Element.MoveByVector moves one element at the time and in between tries to maintain all kind of constraints which it obviously can't do.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV4-66BppvynhuNYaAevb5NyF6B8viyw-8zcAC1_x9V09VTlqPC997EfzouRWIjs5pZFUvOCiqpKVx6E66ntTe6tJsXaYspp3rVLBQWY2LrGLy9SWdXpV7FC9PW6n1Y_FJrAYypIvHa2k/s1600/2018-02-27_11h17_34.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="168" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV4-66BppvynhuNYaAevb5NyF6B8viyw-8zcAC1_x9V09VTlqPC997EfzouRWIjs5pZFUvOCiqpKVx6E66ntTe6tJsXaYspp3rVLBQWY2LrGLy9SWdXpV7FC9PW6n1Y_FJrAYypIvHa2k/s400/2018-02-27_11h17_34.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So far no luck. I'll have a chat with some colleagues first and see if it is possible.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Small tip: Have you been creating a lot of nodes and you find yourself having to turn of previews? Don't! Try this:<br />
<br />
Open your DYN file in notepad++ and do the following replace:<br />
<br />
isVisible="true" to isVisible="false"<br />
<br />
save your dyn file under a new name. Just to be sure you didn't break anything.<br />
<br />
open it again and all nodes should be have their preview being turned of.<br />
<br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When you create a group in Dynamo you have only a few colours to choose from. It would be nice to have a few more or make them a little bit more distinctive. The interface won't let you but it is possible to do.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiyWriJLx5RKNfDBLEJsl2CLO1H6bUy4oCOvpYuh4e7jjAbeg_fcxffCMTg3JvDxU2dXiFzSjOh4cDUUHyt0TyI-TtP4QdqwJHJvCK_chCo29bDCIbDCn-Yoe3z8rbDPQ5Kt8EPrF6blc/s1600/2017-11-02_12-22-34.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiyWriJLx5RKNfDBLEJsl2CLO1H6bUy4oCOvpYuh4e7jjAbeg_fcxffCMTg3JvDxU2dXiFzSjOh4cDUUHyt0TyI-TtP4QdqwJHJvCK_chCo29bDCIbDCn-Yoe3z8rbDPQ5Kt8EPrF6blc/s320/2017-11-02_12-22-34.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Dynamo dyn files can be opened with a text editor. There all kind of interesting things you can modify but let's focus on the colours:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The group called FUNCTION can be found. (in my dyn file) by the header: Dynamo.Graph.Annotations.AnnotationModel</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">but more practically look for the text you filled in! At the end of the line you should see: backgrouund (yes with nice typo)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><dynamo .graph.annotations.annotationmodel="" annotationtext="FUNCTION" backgrouund="#FFFF0000" fontsize="48" guid="3e5c3e2a-dbdf-4dd3-8ee2-aaf632a3fe24" height="112" initialheight="140" initialtop="150" left="-10" textblockheight="58" top="82" width="244"></dynamo></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">it's all about backgrouund="#FFFF0000"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">FFFF0000 = are hex codes for colours. The formatting is: ARGB (#AARRGGBB) meaning the first two define the transparency and the other 6 are the colour.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hex Opacity Values</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Recently I was playing with a script, in Revit 2018, that gets all the Revit categories in a model. I was actually trying to see if I could filter that list and see if I could get the model categories only. Most likely my my dear colleague now thinks yes you could do that with Python... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But I am still struggling a bit with python so for me not yet. But as I ran this script I noticed something else in my list of categories. I suddenly saw these:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Abutments</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Arches</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Bearings</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Cables</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Decks</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Foundations</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Girders</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Piers</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bridge Towers</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">New categories??? I started going through the UI but no luck. I couldn't find them. I went back to Revit 2017 but I couldn't find them there either. I started asking around internally and then I did get a confirmation that these are new categories but they are not exposed in the UI. Only API users can access them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Most likely these categories are added for the interaction of Revit and Infraworks. Now that you know that they are there make use of them! Would be interesting to see if one could create a loadable family that makes use of these categories.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's been my experience that writing scripts that work for different project files can be quite challenging. Writing scripts that work for different offices even more so.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I follow John Pierson on Twitter and recently he was so kind to share a script for renaming rooms. See tweet: </span><a href="https://twitter.com/60secondrevit/status/841274074198302721" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">John Pierson's tweet</span></a><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">He always makes very good dynamo scripts so I copied his script and had a go at one of my files. Unfortunately it did not work. My file has a couple of additional levels that made it not work and my file had rooms in it that were Not Placed.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">To make it work for my file I had to rewrite quite a bit of the script. I had to take out his dictionaries. I didn't get those to work me. That is not criticising John's work. I would merely like to point out that it can be rather tricky to write scripts that work on different project files. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzG8ajH3e3Zu7LfHNtcmzFjSIJDA4S-TpFH12jIGPX_dUfbzzb3UKlZy-UuF5oywoLjg6Nc1ys-yetV4YiNqcDZ5bK0KnKHnPQ_aP7Tzz6HIieW4u2fmEG95gjD6v3LyHj_u-F83ZBi8/s1600/2017-03-14_10-17-15.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzG8ajH3e3Zu7LfHNtcmzFjSIJDA4S-TpFH12jIGPX_dUfbzzb3UKlZy-UuF5oywoLjg6Nc1ys-yetV4YiNqcDZ5bK0KnKHnPQ_aP7Tzz6HIieW4u2fmEG95gjD6v3LyHj_u-F83ZBi8/s640/2017-03-14_10-17-15.jpg" width="640" /></a> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's working for this file but there are some file dependencies in it. It's relying on the level names and that is not so good. So let's try and fix that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj-lZHZMM8NCEuv_5atuI9VVxbkaikq3UYfqbbR2bnGrZq-F0WPxcxQ7hAxvC1iA8kvXTNXFePveV6jDTGaj47sBRSanjjOGFosnsYxZ_87ZkUKg6hNTRj_g6Co8voEcJyM0m5Jxm39q0/s1600/2017-03-14_10-52-05.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj-lZHZMM8NCEuv_5atuI9VVxbkaikq3UYfqbbR2bnGrZq-F0WPxcxQ7hAxvC1iA8kvXTNXFePveV6jDTGaj47sBRSanjjOGFosnsYxZ_87ZkUKg6hNTRj_g6Co8voEcJyM0m5Jxm39q0/s640/2017-03-14_10-52-05.jpg" width="640" /></a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">it's a bit better. I should have appended a 0 if the number was smaller than 10 but I didn't bother with that just yet.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In my script I also had to get the level names twice. That feels like I could have done it more efficiently. But it works at this moment.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But what about checking whether no error has slipped in? Maybe the logic is wrong somewhere and you end up renaming rooms a completely different name. It can happen. So I setup this file to export the new and old name to excel. The bottom groups are all for excel.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX8hiE29WTuXvgW686dYKvy7gzowipQSdBQ3hvnElyGgrH_geEGvlOS4brF7H-87QQzglPJMt6EH6XsxeBa0gdpvls5ZCf6tqF_S7n0BKqYaGgSyd_GiUNOjHe1VPPFz8UgvMG5dmMFsE/s1600/2017-03-14_12-27-40.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX8hiE29WTuXvgW686dYKvy7gzowipQSdBQ3hvnElyGgrH_geEGvlOS4brF7H-87QQzglPJMt6EH6XsxeBa0gdpvls5ZCf6tqF_S7n0BKqYaGgSyd_GiUNOjHe1VPPFz8UgvMG5dmMFsE/s640/2017-03-14_12-27-40.jpg" width="640" /></a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">this is just to create a filename with date for excel and place this file in the same folder as the RVT file. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOmIbSg0VtSHwlyBHkIJDkuCSAqgNHJRFmW9Pon5fFF_DERLnXUCxNrpD3yOKKnOJbr5nwGt8ODCOTqKk2y_os0GegSFMDbdZ0EbqGAC2B1Pl5RObQe_u52ePlY_eBfHryny5bnD4IDqA/s1600/2017-03-14_12-31-12.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOmIbSg0VtSHwlyBHkIJDkuCSAqgNHJRFmW9Pon5fFF_DERLnXUCxNrpD3yOKKnOJbr5nwGt8ODCOTqKk2y_os0GegSFMDbdZ0EbqGAC2B1Pl5RObQe_u52ePlY_eBfHryny5bnD4IDqA/s640/2017-03-14_12-31-12.jpg" width="640" /></a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I added a Pauze node here just to make sure to capture the changed name. (I am not entirely certain if it's necessary)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRgpVQFIxcUREcTf0a8PE21zyN3l4BozCDk8pweK_E0LvQmCgRQYEvAJstZKCe_vSocDGgsnmTA1NoMiLbuodgMVCLST6C-b9IvQoDwltj1MSiw8PL0P4YdrT5VFkaTxh99cTW0y0uSPg/s1600/2017-03-14_12-31-48.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRgpVQFIxcUREcTf0a8PE21zyN3l4BozCDk8pweK_E0LvQmCgRQYEvAJstZKCe_vSocDGgsnmTA1NoMiLbuodgMVCLST6C-b9IvQoDwltj1MSiw8PL0P4YdrT5VFkaTxh99cTW0y0uSPg/s640/2017-03-14_12-31-48.jpg" width="640" /></a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Anyways thank you John for the inspiration. Reading other people's script is always</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> a good learning exercise.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">How can you get an Infraworks terrain model into Revit.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am bit of a nitpicker when it comes to trying to get models at the exact coordinates. Before you continue I thought I had it figured out. Later I have ran into an issue that I have yet to figure out.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Goals for this blog: </span></div>
<div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Infraworks Terrain to Revit </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Revit model into to Infraworks</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Civil 3D model and Revit model in Navisworks</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Everything in the right location without manually moving anything</span></li>
</ol>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Let's start of with Infraworks and I will pick this location as it's one of the few places in the Netherlands that has some elevation.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have a special AutoCAD block that will read the coordinates of a point and will allow me to snap to something.</span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhICIhPzNznInj0PGkmLrj_if-uu0HF3GlmtVtYJOAtJKjGTDfKwSbcqW0QYUuhyphenhyphenoqBIaDoowHUYo9Eh0_ucZ3KA5VD8c3wZY0iTyu3K54yT7utJYIQuy907uqtIvDhxC7lLv3lRGyZ1Nc/s1600/2017-01-03_10-23-44.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhICIhPzNznInj0PGkmLrj_if-uu0HF3GlmtVtYJOAtJKjGTDfKwSbcqW0QYUuhyphenhyphenoqBIaDoowHUYo9Eh0_ucZ3KA5VD8c3wZY0iTyu3K54yT7utJYIQuy907uqtIvDhxC7lLv3lRGyZ1Nc/s320/2017-01-03_10-23-44.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have added some walls earlier for checking to see if the surface would end up in the right location. At the moment it is close but not right... (See numbers 1,2,3 it's of by a few meter.) (4,5 and 6 point to the revit topo surface)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Reviewing the data source configuration, I noticed the lat/long coordinates have changed... </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is what we had set in Revit:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">LAT = 50.75485555555556</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">LON = 6.019808333333334</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strike>and this is what Infraworks has read: read before:</strike></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDZ_Lhk9hyGEnNLnQVUTHaOyycY3ljGF3HcD5I2YZr10FjoKBJJl8M3SoYDDQx0PcBfevus_ucwTsm6QGSyaqCG4xUwoQUlXQb8o9r58zlqzXutdXSeuUl342-Ojp7fzZvR2m8ALP9Di8/s1600/2017-01-03_10-23-33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strike><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDZ_Lhk9hyGEnNLnQVUTHaOyycY3ljGF3HcD5I2YZr10FjoKBJJl8M3SoYDDQx0PcBfevus_ucwTsm6QGSyaqCG4xUwoQUlXQb8o9r58zlqzXutdXSeuUl342-Ojp7fzZvR2m8ALP9Di8/s320/2017-01-03_10-23-33.jpg" width="246" /></strike></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Infraworks reads the values I have entered in the location window. Even thought the Revit interface seems to round the numbers, Infraworks reads the values I have entered.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is was Infraworks reads now:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAnsCgzGgsGlelW9PuuD22_FlTDfAMWJcVf9aukh8JXD_YSrim_RK7nUyRAvAgwsaLZq_UbQzS6PF44a3vp7aABs_hhMGontF_j6boSuWiLNMHOx1gOfS7ymas3NI-cAGnli1sOa2Jwic/s1600/2017-02-22_10-06-50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAnsCgzGgsGlelW9PuuD22_FlTDfAMWJcVf9aukh8JXD_YSrim_RK7nUyRAvAgwsaLZq_UbQzS6PF44a3vp7aABs_hhMGontF_j6boSuWiLNMHOx1gOfS7ymas3NI-cAGnli1sOa2Jwic/s1600/2017-02-22_10-06-50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAnsCgzGgsGlelW9PuuD22_FlTDfAMWJcVf9aukh8JXD_YSrim_RK7nUyRAvAgwsaLZq_UbQzS6PF44a3vp7aABs_hhMGontF_j6boSuWiLNMHOx1gOfS7ymas3NI-cAGnli1sOa2Jwic/s320/2017-02-22_10-06-50.jpg" width="246" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">By now I have eliminated one error I made before and the Revit model is a bit closer to where it should be. It's not correct yet, but reasonable. I did get one other suggestion that I will try.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The problem is that I now have to figure out which mathematical conversion went wrong! None of the conversions are visible. I'll think I'll have a chat with the factory.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The other goal of getting the Revit file and the civil 3D file in the right location in Navisworks did work out. See image below.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">is the Revit file,exported to nwc with shared coordinates</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">is the IMX file from Infraworks loaded into Civil 3D and saves as a DWG</span>.</span></li>
</ol>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A couple of the goals achieved but not all. I'll try to update the blog once I have a solution or when I have found the error why the Revit file is not exactly in the right place.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Find the differences</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tom-and-jerry-games.com/images/blog/finding-cheese-differences-picture-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This can be a fun game. But an important part of the game play relies on the fact that the author will tell you before hand how many differences there are. When you don't know the amount of differences it becomes annoying quite quickly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Navisworks has a compare functionality that works very well but shows the results in a rather tricky way. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">That is a pity because a tool to help you find out what has changed in a file from one version to another is a real time saver. I have seen people placing "Change masses" in Revit to indicate where something has been changed. That system heavily relies on the user not forgetting to place that mass and fill in a comment. That is right away my biggest objection against that system. It's time consuming and prone to error.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Most likely, at the upcoming AU2016, you will get to see and hear of a lot of project Fluent. Project fluent is all about finding the differences between different versions of the same file.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This week I have been looking into it, to see if this can be used to compare the differences between a 2016 file and an upgraded to 2017.1 version of that file.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">After loading the tool showed me this window: </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF5tbqrf__Amus_5AyMHkTdvytOxiVFqQIgtA0sfzoIqa26e8u48BSkvJLjxacORe9jMaXE2FpgSZ6X530JvsO5MQHH7txAVtUyRikUdqqKP3b1l3BDkdhpKLO2A6ho-0byDHZTfFByTs/s1600/2016-11-02_16-36-20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF5tbqrf__Amus_5AyMHkTdvytOxiVFqQIgtA0sfzoIqa26e8u48BSkvJLjxacORe9jMaXE2FpgSZ6X530JvsO5MQHH7txAVtUyRikUdqqKP3b1l3BDkdhpKLO2A6ho-0byDHZTfFByTs/s320/2016-11-02_16-36-20.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ignore the 33 added, those are entourage and of my own doing, most likely. Modified is what I am most interested in. The changes are further sorted in changes in shape, transformation and property values.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The shape changes are sometimes a bit tricky to see or find. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Although small, this mullion is rather obvious:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But a whole lot of doors have changed</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It took me quite a few times clicking on version 1 and 2 to find out what changed here. Trust me when I say there is a very small change.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz29byGOLRp0KFXjNIawl3NqW99-_p0JrYdmPRgnJn6leoKfubdvAAT0G03_9wrGpx4AkQk3zo-X_CvZ42h-8IqJNTn-Uj3fA7g6OAPgz4EWb5K8ey-C4UsOZwtb1lAMsx1s1X0pMRYI0/s1600/2016-11-02_16-48-24.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz29byGOLRp0KFXjNIawl3NqW99-_p0JrYdmPRgnJn6leoKfubdvAAT0G03_9wrGpx4AkQk3zo-X_CvZ42h-8IqJNTn-Uj3fA7g6OAPgz4EWb5K8ey-C4UsOZwtb1lAMsx1s1X0pMRYI0/s320/2016-11-02_16-48-24.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This change is rather odd as this should not have happened. But at least we have found it. We could open this door in the family editor to see what has happened.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Other changes are properties. Most likely here we see a new property appearing in Revit 2017 that wasn't there before.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">Overall I like how the tool shows the differences for the model elements. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">But with upgrading your model you would definitely want to know if your views or sheets have been changed.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">for this upgrade there seemed to only be one change found on the sheets.Therefor I decided to fake it a bit and add some changes to a newer version. Just to see what it finds. Unfortunately it didn't find any.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFcFJ2dkB3TBwEPeOZw_SQUc9XYd1aGZ_Rr9IFp9JhxGzqUSxi6l1yEDQmWv5sTd2nWu3m5lmcJZDvYddTLic9Eg53TI53AhcluSH3pwtEMeZVTPz2aHiidYeD-0MzgvRBO81AQdf02TA/s1600/2016-11-03_10-12-17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFcFJ2dkB3TBwEPeOZw_SQUc9XYd1aGZ_Rr9IFp9JhxGzqUSxi6l1yEDQmWv5sTd2nWu3m5lmcJZDvYddTLic9Eg53TI53AhcluSH3pwtEMeZVTPz2aHiidYeD-0MzgvRBO81AQdf02TA/s320/2016-11-03_10-12-17.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">That is a pity for the time being but I am going to check with the team to find out what is the case here. One other think I would like to see come in is the navigator / project browser you get when you view your file from A360 team / Fusion Team website. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A while ago I read a nice blogpost about how someone wasn't to happy about the IFC format and that he thought the way forward for interoperability is for software vendors to write direct file readers for each others fileformat. Naturally this idea received a warm welcome from the IFC community. I liked the idea at the time but I did see trouble regarding all the different software versions you would have to deal with.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nowadays when you link or import data into Revit you pretty much get a blob of data. Take it or leave it. The amount of control you have when selecting a dwg is rather limited. Sure, you can select which layers you want but it's still a bit of a blob. You are dependant of the quality of the dwg.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAsuKj37v9c26bQDyHPcV9ZwXWn_f90bt9ipKR4YRxk9F00_jsMnLbSKX84TmY3QWT_sh37Zb_G7vJcWdH-Gj0VBaZ2OqCeHmWMPag9jdFYRc52cX9gvmqIyldm1HLFIRtQCIBxlE7MD0/s1600/2016-10-12_08-49-57.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="72" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAsuKj37v9c26bQDyHPcV9ZwXWn_f90bt9ipKR4YRxk9F00_jsMnLbSKX84TmY3QWT_sh37Zb_G7vJcWdH-Gj0VBaZ2OqCeHmWMPag9jdFYRc52cX9gvmqIyldm1HLFIRtQCIBxlE7MD0/s320/2016-10-12_08-49-57.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Linking IFC files isn't any better. You get a blob of data.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Syi48z2bwVO5O3DHuQuuQJxyXrdmCRXCvilAKfgO0GqNpCPksbHxGYIsTTyMINtpZgr_NFLtFBOrtNc0lZldWFQXT1UnRdiVIGY92yIeKl3TsorEdC7yQmSsF3ogAtivJAojYcQZNoQ/s1600/2016-10-12_08-51-56.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="38" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Syi48z2bwVO5O3DHuQuuQJxyXrdmCRXCvilAKfgO0GqNpCPksbHxGYIsTTyMINtpZgr_NFLtFBOrtNc0lZldWFQXT1UnRdiVIGY92yIeKl3TsorEdC7yQmSsF3ogAtivJAojYcQZNoQ/s320/2016-10-12_08-51-56.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Pointclouds, a blob</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJU-tm3h9YkwxMcdT_6x0-fxfm84919rrFOPQwGTfhj8ZBP9ZjxlHJXQKqQL8q5_P5y93zBNBJrfuSESiU1FVE2r6ohheG-u5TWFh1nDn_WhCLfd8Pv4mqT8RzqPJBt8GXDypu8XjZAWc/s1600/2016-10-12_08-52-48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="76" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJU-tm3h9YkwxMcdT_6x0-fxfm84919rrFOPQwGTfhj8ZBP9ZjxlHJXQKqQL8q5_P5y93zBNBJrfuSESiU1FVE2r6ohheG-u5TWFh1nDn_WhCLfd8Pv4mqT8RzqPJBt8GXDypu8XjZAWc/s320/2016-10-12_08-52-48.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Linking database, probably with the right queries, it is a lot better but I haven't done this in a while. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5H_a_F1Cn6UFzqkA480mUQLDiWbhLqQ4fgQXvB_Yg4RCHYhVov_0oaugmxx9hyphenhypheneArXZZitmIUAzZ4QWCNKaTkryLo23EIyM_pRmsEGJtZjqsd3T_zp44nLHbaI_q5iTwZ7Sy0xuZPXvw/s1600/2016-10-12_08-53-42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="187" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5H_a_F1Cn6UFzqkA480mUQLDiWbhLqQ4fgQXvB_Yg4RCHYhVov_0oaugmxx9hyphenhypheneArXZZitmIUAzZ4QWCNKaTkryLo23EIyM_pRmsEGJtZjqsd3T_zp44nLHbaI_q5iTwZ7Sy0xuZPXvw/s320/2016-10-12_08-53-42.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Bridge modeller extension was already a nice step forward regarding what kind of data you would want to get in Revit.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8eX39pqSGJxCWLv1W9fu3q_KTjSUErraVOE9PwPWo_MVWG8r7phYaVj12sQz7-Ra7Il_9X8-C6-ZLywccwWgkKqOGZFeG5ZC9OMz_WO5vJ4vP-0mH61qaMJOKBDncEvcB7cvfBKZRjp8/s1600/2016-10-12_08-55-58.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8eX39pqSGJxCWLv1W9fu3q_KTjSUErraVOE9PwPWo_MVWG8r7phYaVj12sQz7-Ra7Il_9X8-C6-ZLywccwWgkKqOGZFeG5ZC9OMz_WO5vJ4vP-0mH61qaMJOKBDncEvcB7cvfBKZRjp8/s320/2016-10-12_08-55-58.jpg" width="317" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Most likely, there are many more extensions that will let you get specific data from other files. But that is not what I want to write about today. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It dawned upon me that with the way Dynamo is going we are moving towards what I call custom interoperability. You will create the future interfaces between different data sources. Because you know what you need for your projects. Dynamo is getting better by the day to allow you to get the data you need in the format you need it. That is why I like dynamo so much! After AU I will write about some examples of this.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For many years I have been trying to get information from Civil 3D to Revit or the other way around. Things have improved over the years quite a bit but trying to turn TIN surfaces into topo was always a bit of a challenge. (to put it mildly)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But Civil 3D now has the ability to export to IFC. IFC and Revit are of course big friends... But to my surprise the IFC out of Civil 3D to Revit is rather usable. There is of course still the issue with IFC files and coordinates.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">To get the coordinates right</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The first thing I did is check the ifc file I created from Civil 3D in Navisworks with the same dwg. On first glance it looks fine!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next I linked the IFC file into Revit. That imported the file to far from the Revit origin. <span style="color: #999999;">(on a side note, I am trying to get the factory to provide us with the ability to be able to place a linked file with it's origin on top of the survey point.)</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I went back to Civil 3D and I copy pasted the surface into a new file. In that file I moved a know point to the 0.0 (see image)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk8g6fceBaaRnKu4hdCkqg74-7X-6JiqtGOiM-wazaB3f3PJnehQ35t_iv6KzK7f6o3LzP-_zpcTQZdTFxm1ah3DSxRqUIIYYd86Ne8VTa8XO5yRlAWnSzHZZeqbd44KaN_yEENaGf8aM/s1600/2016-09-30_11-33-22.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk8g6fceBaaRnKu4hdCkqg74-7X-6JiqtGOiM-wazaB3f3PJnehQ35t_iv6KzK7f6o3LzP-_zpcTQZdTFxm1ah3DSxRqUIIYYd86Ne8VTa8XO5yRlAWnSzHZZeqbd44KaN_yEENaGf8aM/s320/2016-09-30_11-33-22.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This known point I converted to millimeters.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">X = 353265.125 Y = 402261.875 Z = 111.334 (meters)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">X = 353265125 Y = 402261875 Z = 111334 (millimeters)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Insert the millimeters values in a new revit file into the project base point . Link the IFC file into Revit.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Export the moved surface to IFC</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Link the IFC file in Revit </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To check the coordinates I drew a big floor over the edges of the surface.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Open a 3D view</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">export that floor to a nwc file. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Apend it in Navisworks.</span></li>
</ol>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuLshR1zpqOeDDHxCPUUi03cvw_kokQeVxM18tHWNUevAprhtqVf7YcyFRGo2U1Yvlvsn-3Ux8m5nWydHLxiCKTNT_X9HTm_pWtGF_5a4mxrh1d0UGVieoG3Njg6vblH2P0up2uIM1fz8/s1600/2016-09-30_11-44-32.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuLshR1zpqOeDDHxCPUUi03cvw_kokQeVxM18tHWNUevAprhtqVf7YcyFRGo2U1Yvlvsn-3Ux8m5nWydHLxiCKTNT_X9HTm_pWtGF_5a4mxrh1d0UGVieoG3Njg6vblH2P0up2uIM1fz8/s320/2016-09-30_11-44-32.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The nwc from Revit is right on top of the original dwg file from civil 3D (the one that was not moved!!!) That happens because of the numbers I filled into the project base point and when I export the the nwc file I had set the nwc settings set to: Shared (do not use project internal)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The big advantage of IFC files over other linked CAD files is that IFC files are properly cut by a section view!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are some things left: </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have to test the materials. When I set the view to shaded it's completely black.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The IFC file is a Generic Model and not a Topo surface. (personally I don't care)</span></li>
</ol>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But image what you could do now if you take the different surfaces from Civil 3D to Revit!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Everyone should know that the optimal number of DWG files in your Revit project is less than 1. That being said, it is quite often unavoidable to link dwg files in your Revit project files.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It has been said many times over that you should never import DWG files. Technically linking DWG files is only marginally better than importing DWG files. That is because Revit will 'import' a DWG files if you link it. The only difference is that you will be able to: Reload from, Reload, Unload Import and remove the linked DWG file.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When you want to link in a DWG file you may only do this from a local or network drive. <strike>You can't link to the A360 team site</strike>.(With Autodesk Drive you can link to the A360 team site) (or any other internet site) If you are working on a Collaboration for Revit project you can link DWG files just like you would normally. Your collaborating team members may get to see a dialogue box when they open the project telling them Revit can't find the linked DWG file.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Consider the following setup. Create a separate Revit project file which you will us to link the DWG files you need. Be sure to link the dwg files with current view only and be sure to place the DWG file on the correct view. After you have done so initiate Collaboration for Revit. This RVT file now gets uploaded with all the DWG files in it. If you link this RVT file into another project file you can make the DWG files visible. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(It's good practise to place a linked RVT files on specific workset. I have placed this link on a workset called LINK_DWG)</span> You or any of your collaborating partners will not get the warning: can't find linked DWG files.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiryp6AuMo7HeCbX3P249bqHZXmGbAGBfOXanJcCfnmBeOtCctNyOkpTVI5GkmoI3kFtE17Uf5_IR3-o_hDB91tjrioNZeo-Ka36EtQc7fmWsXROQqrmbraBlK3ZQfIMLBfXA4O6yYujqo/s1600/2016-06-12_11-59-34.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiryp6AuMo7HeCbX3P249bqHZXmGbAGBfOXanJcCfnmBeOtCctNyOkpTVI5GkmoI3kFtE17Uf5_IR3-o_hDB91tjrioNZeo-Ka36EtQc7fmWsXROQqrmbraBlK3ZQfIMLBfXA4O6yYujqo/s320/2016-06-12_11-59-34.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">To make the DWG files from the linked RVT file visible in the Host file you have to do the following.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbT53FhdJXy6qWQUvVs_D_7H2BNUO7sLA64ZBASuxeRDfOg0eJ3PAWL9CBjHH9EfzbCc70SqZTEwpxajfw8OiMzjTMrt42XPWnz87JeD44D2ovisjE0ILoQKf2dnvOSHNjTz-ZE137hZU/s1600/2016-06-12_12-01-10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="235" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbT53FhdJXy6qWQUvVs_D_7H2BNUO7sLA64ZBASuxeRDfOg0eJ3PAWL9CBjHH9EfzbCc70SqZTEwpxajfw8OiMzjTMrt42XPWnz87JeD44D2ovisjE0ILoQKf2dnvOSHNjTz-ZE137hZU/s320/2016-06-12_12-01-10.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Open the view in which you would like to see the DWG file from the linked file. Go to visibility and graphics --> Revit links --> Basics --> set to custom --> and set the linked view.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><i>( in the image you see that I am linking to the view 15-level. Later I realised that it might be better to name the view after the DWG file that I have placed upon it)</i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Next go to the Import categories and check the DWG file that you want to see</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN_MupRKqYvmj8OqeNAQtkbF-o1L2vqX9h6aPbferScwqy0llJWiwAPVzQ75p7daqRsHbS9KFrBDaYyxUT-IGc72lCLxcSJXI_AYGPedVlHqWa7FBsy29ZdimLT9P1vej77lm0QsPCD2g/s1600/imported+cat.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN_MupRKqYvmj8OqeNAQtkbF-o1L2vqX9h6aPbferScwqy0llJWiwAPVzQ75p7daqRsHbS9KFrBDaYyxUT-IGc72lCLxcSJXI_AYGPedVlHqWa7FBsy29ZdimLT9P1vej77lm0QsPCD2g/s320/imported+cat.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you click on the plus sign you will be able to turn of layers or apply overrides</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7vhJ3Cs1d1LehXQBbsonsy9oIi98QRPPQ4hFs5AEXGPfTKwRyIdEc2jr0OmVwmFIB9ZoU-7XCo6WN10L76tCoLCrJreZzCxH45pDjyGkroaxVTL15Znmb-A9IY4ur3BdLMPAixH2Ge_Q/s1600/2016-06-12_12-03-36.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7vhJ3Cs1d1LehXQBbsonsy9oIi98QRPPQ4hFs5AEXGPfTKwRyIdEc2jr0OmVwmFIB9ZoU-7XCo6WN10L76tCoLCrJreZzCxH45pDjyGkroaxVTL15Znmb-A9IY4ur3BdLMPAixH2Ge_Q/s320/2016-06-12_12-03-36.png" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The additional benefit of this is that all the main Revit project files stay clean of DWG links / imports. This is good for performance.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you place the linked RVT file with all the DWG files in it on a specific workset than it's also easy to not load this when you are opening the project by simple not opening this workset. This is good for performance.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you are collaborating with other companies than you can share the DWG information without you having to send them the DWG files separately.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you want to have a look at the file send me email and I'll invite you to my hub.</span></div>

<br />
If you were thinking about these when you read this title then I suggest you go and have dinner first.<br />
<br />
If you have ever played around in the family editor and you have tried to create a filleted shape in Revit you know you have a few challenges to overcome.<br />
<br />
Let's say you would want to create a triangular column with some filleted edges. See image below, the filleted edges, on one side, are numbered.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb-1b8XaZ2wsNAYwzlBtN81uEZsBbF5WQDQpTQiPCXfqc9oEgalXon7aLl1MXVIuON3qK6ALigxZ_bDnMfRRwkl_bWQ2Ve6oq8uNcf1csRjsoRECC4ti0wGkE7PsHW451LoptvDEaaWf8/s1600/2016-05-16_15-22-53.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb-1b8XaZ2wsNAYwzlBtN81uEZsBbF5WQDQpTQiPCXfqc9oEgalXon7aLl1MXVIuON3qK6ALigxZ_bDnMfRRwkl_bWQ2Ve6oq8uNcf1csRjsoRECC4ti0wGkE7PsHW451LoptvDEaaWf8/s320/2016-05-16_15-22-53.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
From close up this would look like this.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo-u641VN0VuxhEy9_rqhXy4iQX61cCyEiqoESTUciW53SkdBwtX-dAalqgy-nPfR0pCcNgm06EwXwr_GfIO_VIHG9P04toE-qB3gR0JMOskzheBksOe8YINYTRo4ZkDhjA9CATLXpuf4/s1600/2016-05-16_15-23-28.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo-u641VN0VuxhEy9_rqhXy4iQX61cCyEiqoESTUciW53SkdBwtX-dAalqgy-nPfR0pCcNgm06EwXwr_GfIO_VIHG9P04toE-qB3gR0JMOskzheBksOe8YINYTRo4ZkDhjA9CATLXpuf4/s320/2016-05-16_15-23-28.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you create this shape in Inventor or Fusion it is relatively easy. (btw I have had some interesting results in FormIt as well)Here is my very simple Inventor column with fillets. But I have moved the end of the part before the fillets.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM8fXCGjuWjthkBf94rwJ23pFMIFIZ5yyrgZwgjt326hWE3LUcSenW-tpOAQdV0rClgtV8l4ZMYHoEkRfcRsqGHGkObusxK4i6xVgRU27FQtYZIsrhQgiqyQDwKyBO4elfdzG__z3GeHQ/s1600/2016-05-16_16-14-44.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM8fXCGjuWjthkBf94rwJ23pFMIFIZ5yyrgZwgjt326hWE3LUcSenW-tpOAQdV0rClgtV8l4ZMYHoEkRfcRsqGHGkObusxK4i6xVgRU27FQtYZIsrhQgiqyQDwKyBO4elfdzG__z3GeHQ/s320/2016-05-16_16-14-44.png" width="320" /></a></div>
If you export the column, you can create a sat file without fillets. (I will use this for either a medium or coarse level of detail)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Move the end of the part after the fillets and export the shape again with a new name and you have a SAT file with fillets for the fine level of detail.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK7T8zz5gQ3S8ClZV42xdUDODNS82inE5owcoR2gTyT-rfenZuCcwQ4cRSPBx41yLkawgPahGxkfIZiZ3F3qar0MBNPfdE8kxxp4WjXzGismiV1TZNWbNg_rg0Wu1NQJl5XqkOXhr-pBw/s1600/2016-05-16_16-15-13.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK7T8zz5gQ3S8ClZV42xdUDODNS82inE5owcoR2gTyT-rfenZuCcwQ4cRSPBx41yLkawgPahGxkfIZiZ3F3qar0MBNPfdE8kxxp4WjXzGismiV1TZNWbNg_rg0Wu1NQJl5XqkOXhr-pBw/s400/2016-05-16_16-15-13.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Import both SAT files into a Revit structural column template. Explode both SAT files and next assign visibilities to the two shapes. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguvNNguouhvh8QB6MgjmKFERpm8DzhEy0RUt1X6bM6q3uEwizCUmy8n4ISw5dsR57yoq4810kCA-oc2uEq0xeCl5_c18qssYA-kGbss1H0J9CXlbr52qrK6Wo2-cms5iVTUxcKZz9kjqA/s1600/2016-05-16_15-24-28.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguvNNguouhvh8QB6MgjmKFERpm8DzhEy0RUt1X6bM6q3uEwizCUmy8n4ISw5dsR57yoq4810kCA-oc2uEq0xeCl5_c18qssYA-kGbss1H0J9CXlbr52qrK6Wo2-cms5iVTUxcKZz9kjqA/s320/2016-05-16_15-24-28.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhneZ_1JF3pbo3dDJO34XVCMZRA4ELhBD7xO8shx5TN-KM0YEn0XuNRUCvsYsVk2rvTgFmk1eP49PnqeF_JB3V97R6hiRMgjW8AIR9vkSThrpakNE-netKcu6gUmD6caXEaM0mzJqqbVoo/s1600/2016-05-16_15-24-48.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhneZ_1JF3pbo3dDJO34XVCMZRA4ELhBD7xO8shx5TN-KM0YEn0XuNRUCvsYsVk2rvTgFmk1eP49PnqeF_JB3V97R6hiRMgjW8AIR9vkSThrpakNE-netKcu6gUmD6caXEaM0mzJqqbVoo/s320/2016-05-16_15-24-48.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If your column does not have to be parametric this works fine. If you do need it to be parametric than I am going to refer to my next blog post. The SAT files without the fillets can be constrained to p.e. the level quite easily. The filleted shape doesn't want to do it for now. But there are other methodes for this. More later.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Recently I was asked why does Navisworks list certain property values several times? I know that it does but somehow in my workflow it has never bothered me. Or I never took the time to sort of find out what is happening.<br />
<br />
When I was asked about it, I knew that the person was using Revit files made by different years of Revit. I started creating some simple files in Revit 2014, 2015 and 2016. Created the nwc out of Revit and appended those to Navisworks. But it's not the different file versions that create this in Navisworks.<br />
<br />
The issue I am describing is when you are in the Find Items window ( in Navisworks) and you are creating a searchset. Notice the double Base levels at #4 (and all the others) If you would select one of the Base Level and add the condition: Equals than the values might be different than what you expect.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3U5lf78POgO_g9dh463W972Xhfhhwc3qOHggH8BXYhMMcIoVbYEr4a69lnZX0ux0ZG5wGB1fclyGo9vnzcFYvlpUx_ftJfjA8Pb8lNFl3S86Joo_5iEwxg5jjeJrb50VA6SIqo0413Pw/s1600/2016-04-19_21-12-54.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="393" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3U5lf78POgO_g9dh463W972Xhfhhwc3qOHggH8BXYhMMcIoVbYEr4a69lnZX0ux0ZG5wGB1fclyGo9vnzcFYvlpUx_ftJfjA8Pb8lNFl3S86Joo_5iEwxg5jjeJrb50VA6SIqo0413Pw/s640/2016-04-19_21-12-54.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you go to the selection tree and switch that one to the properties --> goto element --> Base Level. You will see that these properties include the Revit ID of the element. Quiet some years ago when I started creating searchsets in Notepath++ I noticed those ID's as well. If you want to create searchsets that work over multiple projects you have to stay away from searchsets that have an ID included. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Most of the time you can find exactly what you want but look at other properties.<br />
When I am creating searchsets I tend to do the following.<br />
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>Select the element you want</li>
<li>Look at it's properties</li>
<li>Look at the different tabs to find a property you can use</li>
<li>If you didn't find what you want browse up and down the selection tree until you do.</li>
</ol>
<div>
In the next image you see that the property base constraint has an ID in the value field. If I need to find elements by base constraint I would not use this in the find items window. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqM3PveJJky083lXjmIllLxNBHwijJsisbpQJ3XWRbPqFOPdmWymiWfy6hZdFjThqTHT3BliiajwrHuKYPejGZiAbvdwdrRpI2_P27F1MqLB71gwG6kq39Limr1hH-_HfU4l1q7YFxkE4/s1600/2016-04-19_21-26-57.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqM3PveJJky083lXjmIllLxNBHwijJsisbpQJ3XWRbPqFOPdmWymiWfy6hZdFjThqTHT3BliiajwrHuKYPejGZiAbvdwdrRpI2_P27F1MqLB71gwG6kq39Limr1hH-_HfU4l1q7YFxkE4/s320/2016-04-19_21-26-57.png" width="288" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Notice that there are many property tabs for this element. I would browse all the tabs to see what other properties there are that don't have that ID. In this case it's easy and there is a tab called base constraint that has a property field; level and a value without an ID. I would use that one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhrcjQ09VcD5YM95p8xPi7030XiRr-Q-yvm1SWSUfIlauq2rVqAcfLDEALP-xwL5L0yimHkKOQK-srgw_XM4OJ0h2vDqH9OiJ2KRZoL97EYQllmRWiV5GmEmg4XSGPiX4V0RPxxDzTeEU/s1600/2016-04-19_21-33-18.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhrcjQ09VcD5YM95p8xPi7030XiRr-Q-yvm1SWSUfIlauq2rVqAcfLDEALP-xwL5L0yimHkKOQK-srgw_XM4OJ0h2vDqH9OiJ2KRZoL97EYQllmRWiV5GmEmg4XSGPiX4V0RPxxDzTeEU/s320/2016-04-19_21-33-18.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The searchset would look like this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTm9TOu7zjLSALnmFGCzZe5XjbOYgT0tHwkvFwJXq-bMpRBHDy3QtGzM7P9lgWkhHQsY616CDHLGPOaEJmNVFKW_vOJhtzMx2TLpxs5Y3iEjOk19gm8pFSdRTCGswoCkBxTtApCuQPOb0/s1600/2016-04-19_21-35-20.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="64" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTm9TOu7zjLSALnmFGCzZe5XjbOYgT0tHwkvFwJXq-bMpRBHDy3QtGzM7P9lgWkhHQsY616CDHLGPOaEJmNVFKW_vOJhtzMx2TLpxs5Y3iEjOk19gm8pFSdRTCGswoCkBxTtApCuQPOb0/s320/2016-04-19_21-35-20.png" width="320" /></a></div>

There are quite a few other peculiarities when you append Revit files made in different years (versions) I'll try to blog about those later.</div>
<div>
</div>
<br /></div>
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1044956531247204561.post-63694131541246505472016-03-16T21:46:00.001+01:002016-03-16T21:46:05.393+01:00Filters<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Quite often when I am analysing files I see filters being used for turning on / off Revit categories. For me that just seems very odd. But since I see it in many files I might be missing something. If you have a good case for the following please let me know.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxvaKNnlMLM3XePdLR41rtLQBgTzoqiqxSIzoAWnPhcAcy6ky3fkqmr0FqNXPaRBkXkPS1cF7IgDYBcJrm41zunlx5QajKeJieV8j_f0cATmnZ90IjFx5j2cRIG_fHWGhydP9jY2oTTWQ/s1600/2016-03-16_21-26-29.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxvaKNnlMLM3XePdLR41rtLQBgTzoqiqxSIzoAWnPhcAcy6ky3fkqmr0FqNXPaRBkXkPS1cF7IgDYBcJrm41zunlx5QajKeJieV8j_f0cATmnZ90IjFx5j2cRIG_fHWGhydP9jY2oTTWQ/s400/2016-03-16_21-26-29.png" width="400" /></a></div>
For example I encounter filters like these. A filter that targets doors but has no filter rules.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIuQJOYEw8j-aZcuqOzHYAZbHPl2KglWnYi7OUkZsNas6E-zsU6fNPkO0YkL9ZzFOXirOXVo-tPSzfRaTXve8g6P21xPBVjCxUzNNszybHkIz3UrBgEvzmPqcaxGY5qwlLMOKFlJSJ-Js/s1600/2016-03-16_21-28-52.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIuQJOYEw8j-aZcuqOzHYAZbHPl2KglWnYi7OUkZsNas6E-zsU6fNPkO0YkL9ZzFOXirOXVo-tPSzfRaTXve8g6P21xPBVjCxUzNNszybHkIz3UrBgEvzmPqcaxGY5qwlLMOKFlJSJ-Js/s400/2016-03-16_21-28-52.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here the filter with visibility on</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT0KcjbmV5FlRSgj5drIfYfDOJ1sE27Isop0aN-UkxODLk1CTKlwHkwl7DgbPa9A6oJsrmk7yco4NkgQrdv4mgoTQn05-_RTMe3mDhENylxd2ycz-lnVcJ1B5kAaQktYr4Z9ZObM8_t6I/s1600/2016-03-16_21-29-09.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT0KcjbmV5FlRSgj5drIfYfDOJ1sE27Isop0aN-UkxODLk1CTKlwHkwl7DgbPa9A6oJsrmk7yco4NkgQrdv4mgoTQn05-_RTMe3mDhENylxd2ycz-lnVcJ1B5kAaQktYr4Z9ZObM8_t6I/s320/2016-03-16_21-29-09.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Here the filter with visibility off<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSBM5SiiKxu41ekIuBxfWYx-0CsyddWhwAorAvY3gTE7kDAZJpl-F2N67TyciAGJReVkkbd4grstIoVwMz8RFSuLiVgLv1w3mU4Kvkhrpo00n2xXuJUBFVVN3G9J7ZxANgLHbospuhp3U/s1600/2016-03-16_21-29-39.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSBM5SiiKxu41ekIuBxfWYx-0CsyddWhwAorAvY3gTE7kDAZJpl-F2N67TyciAGJReVkkbd4grstIoVwMz8RFSuLiVgLv1w3mU4Kvkhrpo00n2xXuJUBFVVN3G9J7ZxANgLHbospuhp3U/s320/2016-03-16_21-29-39.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But why not do it here. (In my mind this where you turn off entire categories)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3ey2mWsIdfbNoxkoUqU4_ipkI4VmmW4wvxLROfT-otfKutNCdS2Q5Wws7NoAhFTRxooP8zopilFDx6dfIn9kaLydDva4SfUbJIsG-ZDpxig1b6doPwkfL2dTz4y57o4mPoBd41SpsUeU/s1600/2016-03-16_21-24-17.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3ey2mWsIdfbNoxkoUqU4_ipkI4VmmW4wvxLROfT-otfKutNCdS2Q5Wws7NoAhFTRxooP8zopilFDx6dfIn9kaLydDva4SfUbJIsG-ZDpxig1b6doPwkfL2dTz4y57o4mPoBd41SpsUeU/s320/2016-03-16_21-24-17.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In my mind filters where ment to make distinction possible base on property values. For example here a couple of filters that colour walls based structural functionality.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
(I know that the name Walls Structural non Bearing is a bit odd. But its looks nice alphabetically)</div>
</div>

When I do Revit Project Health Check I tend to do a whole section on how warnings in your model are bad for all kind of reasons.<br />
<br />
Some of these warnings are easy to fix and others are tedious to do. Fixing them right away as they occur is the preferred way.<br />
<br />
I was looking at this one model with these warnings:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFNUESixSgQ0l6whyiki9we_ZNLD6y4fW-lKjOtdKF2AAf1w33VwqyjYKE7scCWBOzRaiUtHaCGThKFE9xhMWnS7dlhA3fhwjotjvXF1wz-M2eAQYQZ6JocmoRE2BfXM0mjwyS060-28Y/s1600/2016-02-11_9-11-54.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFNUESixSgQ0l6whyiki9we_ZNLD6y4fW-lKjOtdKF2AAf1w33VwqyjYKE7scCWBOzRaiUtHaCGThKFE9xhMWnS7dlhA3fhwjotjvXF1wz-M2eAQYQZ6JocmoRE2BfXM0mjwyS060-28Y/s320/2016-02-11_9-11-54.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although the duplicate marks is not a very severe warning it's still a good idea to fix it. Notice in the image below there are 1136 warnings atm.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPNETds2H0Ow3yxwWACUNDAePXQM3wvEoyygoSoOAXA0bkb1NDPFbRscvGEANOpqWzjAQfsSIPmRfiXV86Sl98aTFhnTY2IcgdStHxTTQ8Y6XXUN6XSdPxSBUOEGnfNrwMMGuCn6T9ff0/s1600/2016-02-11_9-12-07.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPNETds2H0Ow3yxwWACUNDAePXQM3wvEoyygoSoOAXA0bkb1NDPFbRscvGEANOpqWzjAQfsSIPmRfiXV86Sl98aTFhnTY2IcgdStHxTTQ8Y6XXUN6XSdPxSBUOEGnfNrwMMGuCn6T9ff0/s320/2016-02-11_9-12-07.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I was wondering can I fix these warnings with dynamo without using excel. So I set out and indeed it's possible. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is the script:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the different categories and warnings you will want to change this one</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs_b02l5_Sw5px6_aiYCTbpAHewKG0mWMjiVTbozWhac05rObjMvKx5dw1w-szavGmnB9hYaGg0j2HWtJM8zGHiHXADyku4P_TE2S9rAMnla4-OWSw5zd3TOwxJRvu1vuGsKICeBtI2AI/s1600/2016-02-11_9-20-33.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="96" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs_b02l5_Sw5px6_aiYCTbpAHewKG0mWMjiVTbozWhac05rObjMvKx5dw1w-szavGmnB9hYaGg0j2HWtJM8zGHiHXADyku4P_TE2S9rAMnla4-OWSw5zd3TOwxJRvu1vuGsKICeBtI2AI/s320/2016-02-11_9-20-33.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
and this one (the parameter name)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Notice that I concat the numbering with a string here. You may want to change that to your company standards.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The whole script</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Less warnings!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So for this project I have to run this script a couple of times. Choose different categories and maybe different parameter names.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the script: <a href="https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B83rceLDUFtYdnUyRkRXUGV5N1k">dynamo script</a></div>
